Two of Vivaldi’s instrumental works act as a prelude to the sublime countertenor voice of Andreas Scholl. The Miserere Filiae maestae Jerusalem and Stabat Mater showcase Scholl’s fine musicianship, phrasing and interpretive powers, sympathetically accompanied by the consort. In Musica sacra she performs Vivaldi’s antifona Salve Regina, (RV618), consisting of six short texts, where she illuminates a range of developing emotions through her verbal accuracy and vocal palette. Likewise the recitative in the Miserere, where she reduces.
